Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada mountains of the United States of America. It is can be found along the border between California and Nevada, west of Carson City, Nevada. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America It is 1,645 ft deep; which makes it America's second-deepest lake.
The lake was formed about 2 million years ago and is a part of the Lake Tahoe Basin with the modern Lake being shaped during the Ice Ages. The lake is known for the clarity of its water and the panorama of surrounding mountains on all sides. The area surrounding the lake is also referred to as Lake Tahoe, or simply Tahoe.
Lake Tahoe is a big tourist attraction for both California and Nevada, as well as visitors from all over the world. It is home to a number of ski resorts, such as Kirkwood, Heavenly, Sierra at Tahoe, Homewood and Squaw Valley. Snow and skiing are a huge part of the area's winter-time economy.
Tahoe also has many summer outdoor recreational activities, such as hiking, water skiing and boating. You can enjoy the view of the Lake also by relaxing at one of it’s many sandy beaches.
The Nevada side has many large casinos for gaming, shows and dancing fun. The south shore of Lake Tahoe at Stateline boasts 5 casinos alone. Harvey's, Harrahs, Bill's, Horizon and Lakeside Inn, a local favorite, which is set apart from the rest, at the bottom of Kingsbury Grade.
Lake Tahoe has, for many years always attracted big name entertainers from all Genres. At any time throughout the year you can find a show to go to at one of the local casinos.
